Step 6

Keep going

After you have completed the discussions for the first set of topics, we recommend you revisit the self-evaluation. The organization should complete the self-evaluation again in about six months to track progress, identify challenge areas and develop actions to address barriers. While six months is recommended, the most important thing is to keep the process moving at whatever pace works best for your organization.

Re-evaluate the organization

Do not be alarmed if the rankings go down. Progress on a diversity, equity and inclusion journey includes becoming aware that you didn’t know what you didn’t know. Increased awareness may cause individuals to rate their organizations lower.

Again, using the results of the evaluation as a guide, as a group choose the next three to five topics under Internal to the Organization that you want to learn more about. Create a timeline to complete each and schedule at least one group discussion for each topic. Add this timeline to your Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Action Plan.
