LiDAR

LiDAR images show vegetation types and paved surfaces more clearly than true color images.

LiDAR is a method for determining ranges by targeting an object or a surface with a laser and measuring the time for the reflected light to return to the receiver. Land trusts find it helpful because it shows vegetation types and paved surfaces more clearly than true color images. Advancements in LiDAR technology have resulted in increased image resolution, allowing land trusts to look at vegetation changes throughout a growing season and between years.
