About This Webinar
Land trusts have been conserving agricultural land for decades, but is that all that’s needed to ensure equitable farmland and food access for all? Not quite. Join Jazmin Leath (Carolina Farm Stewardship Association) and Nayla Jimenez Cabezas (Washington Farmland Trust) to learn about two successful organizations that go beyond traditional agricultural conservation to support the success of farmers who are Black, Indigenous and People of Color, thereby increasing food access for their communities. Justin Merrifield (Land Trust Alliance) will also share connections for NRCS funding opportunities for your organization to begin or enhance your work in this area. Here’s a look at what we will cover during the webinar:
The historical and current exclusion of farmers who are Black, Indigenous and People of Color from land access and the food access issues this creates.
How the NRCS’ Regional Conservation Partnership Program (RCPP) and ACEP-ALE program specifically support farming and food access for communities of color.
The Carolina Farm Stewardship Association’s mission and how it works to find resources for organic and regenerative farming and provide food for food pantries and food hubs
Washington Farmland Trust’s story of adding programming that grew services from farmland conservation easement focus to include community-centered focus of the Farm to Farmer program, which focuses on helping farmers thrive and keeping farmland in production through relationship building.
