About This Webinar

Western New York and Pennsylvania are riddled with oil and gas infrastructure. This can create the need for your easement to build infrastructure for extraction and may threaten the perpetuity of your protected land. If we didn’t protect land with existing oil and gas leases, our work would be easier, but we would be forced to leave many important places unprotected.

Sarah Costlow, land protection director, and Rachel Chrostowski, farmland conservation director at the Western New York Land Conservancy will provide case studies and examples from New York. Matt Marusiak, land protection manager at the Western Pennsylvania Conservancy will also be joining to share examples from Pennsylvania to help navigate protecting land with oil and gas leases.

At this Lunch & Learn, you will:

  • Learn about Land Trust Alliance requirements for oil and gas encumbrances.

  • Explore paths forward for fee and easement projects with oil and gas leases.

  • Discuss risks associated with protecting land with oil and gas leases.

Participants in Land Trust Alliance events should review and agree to the Alliance Code of Conduct.
