About This Webinar

If you’ve been thinking about how you can begin educating policymakers and advocating for conservation, you aren’t the only one. You know this is critical for protecting land and water, but how do you get started? You’ve heard different things about actions that land trusts are allowed to take, and you don’t want to get it wrong. At the same time, it seems more important than ever to educate local, state or federal elected officials about conservation. The Land Trust Alliance’s experienced advocates, Robert Schwartz (senior government relations program manager) and Andrew Szwak, (Mid-Atlantic program manager) will lead this webinar, sharing their knowledge as well as success stories from leading advocacy voices in land conservation. Here’s a look at what we will cover:

  • Defining policy advocacy and education.

  • Describing the benefits that engaging in advocacy can bring to land conservation.

  • Discerning permissible actions that land trusts may take.

  • Dissecting best practices for employing a strategic approach that focuses on relationships and strategy.

  • Deploying a decision tree for engaging on advocacy topics.

This webinar is included in the 2025 Webinar Pass.
