Building resilient habitats to protect vulnerable people and habitats.

In the context of climate change, resilience refers to the ability of a natural system to rebound after a disturbance, taking advantage of resources or coping with consequences. Because we expect a great many environmental changes as the world warms, the resilience of an ecosystem is highly relevant as land trusts consider which places to protect and how to manage them. Further, land trusts that actively plan for resilience can reduce vulnerabilities to allow ecological systems and the human communities that depend on and live in these systems to recover and prevail when faced with impacts such as increased sea level rise, storms, fire and drought. This topic area will help your land trust access the knowledge it needs to learn, plan, adapt and inspire conservation actions that are responsive to a changing climate and future uncertainties.
