About This Legal Opinion
The US Department of Justice brought a civil action alleging fraud under I.R.C. § 6700(a)(2) against five individuals and one entity (EcoVest) who were serving as promoters and appraisers of syndicated conservation easement projects. Since 2009, the defendants allegedly orchestrated at least 96 conservation easement syndicates that resulted in over $2 billion of federal tax deductions.
