About This Sample

Stewardship staff need a broad and varied set of skills. While that might include building an occasional trail or managing for invasives, stewardship staff also need to be able to communicate with landowners, understand legal terms, keep accurate records, use GIS technology, interpret what they see on the ground in the context of easement documents and so much more.

Land trust leaders should spend time developing a strong understanding of what skills the stewardship people at their organizations use every day. Then, work with human resources to evaluate existing job descriptions and modify them to accurately reflect the work.

These sample job descriptions are from land trusts that have done this evaluation process. Check back here for more updated position descriptions that are being revised to reflect what stewardship staff are actually doing these days, including enforcement, amendments and other complex issues.
