Optimal Solar Siting for Maryland: A Pilot for Baltimore County and City

This 2020 report presents a high‑resolution geospatial analysis identifying where solar energy development can be expanded in Baltimore City and County while minimizing environmental and land‑use tradeoffs. Produced by the Chesapeake Conservancy’s Conservation Innovation Center, the report maps optimal solar locations including rooftops, parking lots and degraded lands and identifies additional preferred ground‑mounted opportunities that avoid prime farmland, forests and ecologically sensitive areas. It demonstrates that the region has ample potential to meet its share of Maryland’s renewable energy goals through strategic siting while supporting equity, economic development and conservation priorities.
