About This Event

The Land Trust Alliance's New York and New England Offices are pleased to offer this 90-minute Lunch and Learn session with experienced conservation attorneys Paul MacDonald, Ransmeier & Spellman and Doug Hill, Squam Lakes Conservation Society.

This session is a rapid introduction to land Title. Paul and Doug will cover:

  • What is title, anyway?

  • How is title recorded and transferred?

  • How do you figure it all out? (i.e., title research)

  • What are the special title issues faced by land trusts?"

The session will explore common questions that arise, including:

  • What if you obtain a conservation easement but don’t get it from the right owner or all of the owners?

  • What if the property is subject to a mortgage and the mortgage is foreclosed and the foreclosure wipes out the easement rights?

  • What if the boundaries of the property are incorrectly described?

This session is open to land trust staff, board members and volunteers in New York as well as in Connecticut, Massachusetts, Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont and Rhode Island.
