About This Practice

This guidance covers Practice 8E, which has one element:

  1. When engaging in a partnership on a joint acquisition or long-term stewardship project or when co-holding conservation easements, create written agreements to clarify:

  • The goals of the project

  • The roles and responsibilities of each party

  • Legal and financial arrangements

  • Communications to the public and between parties

Collaborative efforts to conserve land have become the norm. The best projects engage local, state, nonprofit and sometimes federal partners. We all want leverage for our limited funds and to benefit from the shared ownership created through partnerships. -- Sam Schuchat, Executive Officer, California Coastal Conservancy
