The following case study shows how ALE programming has helped conservation of Meyer Family Prairie in Nebraska.

South of Red Cloud, Nebraska, the Willa Cather Memorial Prairie captures the beauty of the state's endless grasslands. Adjacent to the memorial prairie is a 1,147-acre “never-plowed” prairie owned by Brandon and Kami Meyer.
Kami’s grandfather purchased the prairie over 50 years ago with conservation in mind. It took three years to help secure the funding, but with the help of the NRCS ALE program, the Cottonwood Wind Project and the Nebraska Environmental Trust, the Meyer family was able to conserve their prairie with an easement through the Nebraska Land Trust
The prairies are not only used as a pasture for grazing, they serve as a refuge for wildlife. With adjacent land being protected forever, the diversity of wildlife can continue to thrive.
When visitors come to admire the beauty of the grasslands, they get a 360-degree view of undeveloped land that once inspired Willa Cather.
