2024 election: A path forward

Donald Trump will be our next president, and Republicans will control the U.S. Senate and the House of Representatives. Meanwhile, at the statewide level, voters overwhelmingly supported pro-environmental ballot initiatives while rejecting anti-environmental ones in several states, including Minnesota, Washington, California, Louisiana and Rhode Island.

Be assured that plans are in place to advance the Land Trust Alliance mission by working with our members to educate the new administration about the importance of land conservation and the critical roles that land trusts play in communities across the country. 

The work of private land conservation will continue regardless of who sits in the Oval Office or wields the majority in Congress, because we focus on working with elected officials from all parties. Our government relations team is gearing up to educate the new administration about key issues for our community, such as perpetual easements and wise siting of energy infrastructure.

We also will be enlisting land trust leaders to engage and elevate these issues with their own contacts in Congress and the White House. If you aren’t already, please consider joining your peers as a member of the Alliance’s Advocacy Ambassador program, a network of land trust staff and board members committed to delivering the important message of conservation to their political leaders. Those with little prior exposure to advocacy and those with prior political experience are encouraged to become Ambassadors.

The Land Trust Alliance will continue advocating for the land trust community and private land conservation in a nonpartisan manner, because Americans, regardless of party affiliation, believe we should be engaging in more conservation, not less, and support the use of conservation easements to do so.
