About This Webinar
As accessibility and inclusion become a high priority for land trusts, many ask: where do we start? Thankfully, there are people within the disability community taking charge and leading the way into equitable, inclusive and accessible conservation work. The disability spectrum is wide and encompasses many forms of disability. This webinar will feature the founder of Disabled Hikers, Syren Nagakyrie, as they discuss ways our land trust members can center and uplift the voices and expertise of the disability community.
We collectively must work to ensure people with disabilities are leading efforts to make land trusts more accessible, and that we are thinking beyond accessibility to make room for leadership of people with disabilities in all aspects of land conservation. Like much of what land trust professionals do every day, inclusion and accessibility is a journey that requires listening, learning and mindfulness to incorporate what we know into our work. Together, we can make land trusts a safe and welcoming place for all people.
Here is a look at what we will cover:
Introduction to key terms and concepts related to disability, and an orientation to the different types of disability.
Historical contexts of disability in conservation.
Going beyond ADA – how to create space for disabled people to shape, participate in and benefit from land conservation.
This webinar is included in the 2024 All-Access Pass.
