The USDA Forest Service’s Community Forest Program is a competitive grant program that provides financial assistance to tribes, local governments, and qualified conservation non-profit organizations to acquire and establish community forests that provide community benefits.

Native Governance Center co-hosted an Indigenous land acknowledgment event on Indigenous Peoples’ Day 2019. This guide to Indigenous land acknowledgments was created based on the panelists' responses and includes information on how to create an acknowledgment, factors to consider and action steps.

It’s easy for land acknowledgments to become yet another form of optical allyship. Instead of spending time on a land acknowledgment statement, we recommend creating an action plan highlighting the concrete steps you plan to take to support Indigenous communities into the future.
