More than 1,000 acres of land south of Interlachen have been permanently protected as part of the Florida Wildlife Corridor; protecting the wetlands will improve water quality in the Orange Creek basin and safeguard species ranging from Florida black bears and gopher tortoises to sandhill cranes and swallow-tailed kites.
