The effort is about more than scenery. McClellanville supplies roughly 20% of the Lowcountry’s seafood; conservationists say the new tree buffers will help filter runoff before it reaches nearby waterways where shrimp, oysters and fish are harvested. Seawell said protecting the land also helps preserve McClellanville’s affordability for local fishing families.
