A ‘natural haven’ is about to become Afton’s newest park — thanks, in part, to two dogs named Mike and Millie

The residents of Afton owe a debt of gratitude to a brother-and-sister pair of yellow Labs who loved frolicking in a meadow on a bluff overlooking the St. Croix River. Thanks to Millie, who died in late 2022, and Mike, who died in early 2024, that meadow, part of a 39-acre piece of land owned by Susan Herreid, will be protected forever as a city park.
