Ashley Demosthenes, CEO

Ashley became interested in conservation while attending summer camp located on a South Carolina barrier island. Her days at camp, among the marshes and seagulls, deepened her curiosity about the land and solidified her commitment to seeing places like this saved for future generations. Her own family placed a permanent conservation easement on farmland they have owned for decades, committing her and her siblings to a vision of the future that brings the best of the past forward for the next generations.

A native Charlestonian, Ashley received her B.A. in Environmental Studies from the University of Vermont. Since then, she has been active in working to protect the Lowcountry of South Carolina, first at The Nature Conservancy and then as President and CEO of the Lowcountry Land Trust. This work has given her the chance to see firsthand how land, and the work to conserve it, brings people together, provides much needed open space for health and wellness, and creates a community united by a sense of place. Ashley and her husband, together with their three kids, all enjoy hiking, fishing, hunting, surfing and gardening.
